RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-664

A resolution recognizing Jamie Harper of Joelton for his gallant display of heroism.

WHEREAS, the extraordinary courage and composure in the face of danger that Jamie Harper showed is indeed deserving of special recognition for his heroic efforts on Friday, June 8, 2001, that saved the lives of two victims in a fiery vehicle-crash; and

WHEREAS, on his way out with his girlfriend, Jamie Harper, without hesitation and regard for his own personal safety, stopped and rendered aid by risking his own life to save two teenage boys; and

WHEREAS, suffering extensive injuries from both the crash and flames Mr. Ricky Jackson and Mr. Dean Finch are truly fortunate to have a good Samaritan such as Mr. Harper help them escape the flames engulfing their vehicle and are undoubtedly indebted to this brave young man; and

WHEREAS, the prompt intervention and quick-thinking of Mr. Harper and the spirit of selflessness and bravery which he displayed saved these two young men from certain death, preserving the life of two (2) fellow human beings; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize this truly remarkable man, Mr. Jamie Harper, for his outstanding act of heroism.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Jamie Harper of Joelton for his gallant display of heroism.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. Jamie Harper.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
