A resolution recognizing Judge Mattielyn B. Williams on her retirement from the Transportation Licensing Commission.

WHEREAS, Judge Mattielyn B. Williams is a prominent member of this community and has been an Administrative Law Judge for the State of Tennessee since 1996; and
WHEREAS, Judge Mattielyn B. Williams is a native of our Nation's capital where she attended school and was active in many scholastic and community activities; and
WHEREAS, she is a graduate of Yale University and holds a law degree from Vanderbilt University; and

WHEREAS, Judge Mattielyn B. Williams has served her community as a member of the Governor's Blue Ribbon Task Force on Excellence in Education; as a board member of the United Way of Middle Tennessee, as a board member of the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the American Diabetes Association as well as an active member of Edgehill United Methodist Church; and

WHEREAS, she provided leadership as President of the Napier-Looby Bar Association, a board member for Legal Services of Middle Tennessee and as a executive board member for the Nashville NAACP; and

WHEREAS, her service to this community included nearly a decade as a member of the Transportation Licensing Commission where she was always available to staff for guidance and assistance while she always held the public's best interests at heart when deliberating the Commission's actions; and

WHEREAS, Judge Mattielyn B. Williams served as vice-chair of the Transportation Licensing Commission during a period of great change and progress as she worked toward the development of the Commission into an independent operation then diligently worked with the development of new ordinances governing the regulation of both the taxicab and wrecker industries in Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, she served as chair of the Commission's Taxicab Ordinance Revision subcommittee spending untold hours working to insure the ordinance's completeness, effectiveness and quality while demonstrating her collaborative skills with taxicab industry to improve the industry while giving selflessly of her time for scheduled and extraordinary meetings to insure cooperation and understanding; and

WHEREAS, Judge Mattielyn B. Williams' able leadership has made the Transportation Licensing Commission a model and example for other cities throughout the nation; and

WHEREAS, Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County is considered to be one of the best regulated cities in the world due in large part to her skills as a leader; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Judge Mattielyn B. Williams.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Judge Mattielyn B. Williams on her retirement from the Transportation Licensing Commission.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Judge Mattielyn B. Williams.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
