RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-661

A resolution recognizing General William G. Moore, Jr., upon his service with the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority for the City of Nashville.

WHEREAS, General William G. Moore, Jr., a native of Waco, Texas, who after serving in the United States Air Force from 1940 until 1979 and involved in three wars became a highly decorated and honored Four Star General, came to Tennessee where he entered into the private sector and was elected to serve as president of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority; and

WHEREAS, General William G. Moore, Jr., being one of the most knowledgeable leaders in aviation, has promoted the importance of air service to the economic development of Nashville and the surrounding regions of Middle Tennessee in directing the planning, development, financing and operation of the Nashville International Airport; and

WHEREAS, under his tenure with the Airport Authority, General Moore, oversaw the development of the airport's current terminal; the rise and fall of the American Airlines hub; the re-emergence of Nashville as a key market for Southwest Airlines, as well as the expansion of other carriers, the construction of two of its four runways and expansion of its third, construction of new thoroughfares and parking facilities, and countless other projects making Nashville International Airport one of the most modern, convenient and accessible airports in the U.S.; and

WHEREAS, in addition, General Moore has devoted countless hours of his time, talents and energy to make the community a better place to live whether it be raising funds for local charities or working to encourage corporate involvement in local schools; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize General William Moore as a conscientious and dedicated public servant not only to his former employees and colleagues but to all Nashvillian's and commend him on his extraordinary achievements.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing General William G. Moore, Jr., upon his service with the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority for the City of Nashville.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to General William G. Moore, Jr.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
