RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-645
A resolution authorizing the Mayor to submit an application for an Immigration Related Employment Discrimination Public Education grant from the U.S. Department of Justice acting through the Metropolitan Human Relations Commission for the benefit of the Metropolitan Government.
Whereas, the Federal Government is accepting applications for U.S. Department of Justice Grant Programs covering the period of October 2001 - October 2002; and,
Whereas, the Metropolitan Human Relations Commission is eligible to participate in the grant program; and,
Whereas, the Metro Code section 2.132 defines a mission and objective of the Metropolitan Human Relations Commission as "lessening and eliminating prejudice and discrimination through educational and awareness-enhancing programs designed to promote tolerance, respect, and the value of diversity"; and,
Whereas, the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice offers grants to fund programs that educate the public on the anti-discrimination provisions of the Federal Immigration and Nationality Act; and,
Whereas, Federal Government requires that the grant application be approved by resolution, motion, or similar act of the applicant's governing body; and,
Whereas, it is to the benefit of the citizens of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant application be approved and submitted; and,
Whereas, the Human Relations Commission accepts oversight and management responsibility of the grant;
Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Council of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan Mayor is authorized to submit an application for the FY 2001 Immigration Related Employment Discrimination Public Education Grant, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein.
Section 2. That there is no required match of dollars from the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.
Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
