A resolution authorizing the Metropolitan Mayor to submit an application to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for a Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control grant.

WHEREAS, Metropolitan Nashville is in a position to prepare a competitive application for a grant under the Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control program; and

WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has issued new regulations requiring the inspection, testing, assessment, and mediation of lead-based paint hazards in residential properties where certain federal funds are being used to finance rehabilitation services; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency annually uses a significant portion of federal Community Development Block Grant and HOME Investment Partnerships program funds for residential rehabilitation and is required to meet the Department of Housing and Urban Development's lead-based paint hazard regulations; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency has previously prepared the applications for and has administered or coordinated the implementation of federal housing and community development programs; and

WHEREAS, the application for a Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control grant is to be submitted to the Department of Housing and Urban Development on or before May 17, 2001.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency is hereby authorized to prepare the submission of a Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control grant on behalf of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County in accordance with applicable federal regulations.

Section 2. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its enactment, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
