RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-615
A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Police Department to enforce ordinances and laws prohibiting jaywalking in the area of the Metropolitan Government.
WHEREAS, jaywalking is both contrary to law and dangerous to pedestrians; and
WHEREAS, numerous appropriate street crossing areas have been designed within the immediate downtown area and other areas to allow ease of pedestrian crossing and which give pedestrians the right-of-way; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that to protect the public safety that the Metro Police Department enforce the laws prohibiting jaywalking.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Police Department to enforce ordinances and laws prohibiting jaywalking in the area of the Metropolitan Government.
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Chief of Police.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

the caption and to the end Section 1:
"by increasing awareness and issuing verbal warning and/or citations"
