RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-606

A resolution recognizing the Davidson County 4-H members who participated in the 4-H Public Speaking Contest for 2001.

WHEREAS, 4-H is the youth branch of the Agricultural Extension Service which allows Davidson County youth ages 9-19 to join 4-H and benefit from the learning opportunities offered; and

WHEREAS, these terrific young members of 4-H participated and represented Davidson County at this year's speaking contest that was held on Saturday, February 3, 2001, at the TSU-Williams campus; and

WHEREAS, 4-H members throughout Davidson County began in January preparing their speeches and presenting them during their 4-H meetings, while earning the chance to represent their 4-H club at the county competition on Saturday, February 24th in Franklin; and

WHEREAS, the following 4-H members in the 4th-grade participated in the County 4-H Public Speaking Contest; 1st place winners, Gabriel Arroyo of Old Center, Kevin Young, Chelsea Tignor, and Olivia Baynes of Crieve Hall, Blake Triplett of Mt. View and Connor Miller of Andrew Jackson, 2nd place honors, Sam Weinzimer of Hull-Jackson, Nicholas Gordon of Mt. View, Alex Cox of Andrew Jackson, Jamaria Bowen of Hull-Jackson, Taryn Pennington of Una, and Leah Fletcher of Granberry, 3rd place honors, Pavan Panjeti of Hull-Jackson, Katie Reasonover of Andrew Jackson, Julian Smith of Hattie Cotton, Isabelle Daugherty, Hailey Westmoreland and Hassouna Hawila of Mt. View; and

WHEREAS, the following 5th graders participated and received 1st place recognition; Erin McDonough, and Brooke Baggett of Green Hills, 2nd place honors Brittney Batson, Patrick Fenior and Gillian Brassil of Meigs, 3rd place honors Justin Tays of Nashville Christian, Halson Balthrop of Meigs and Jacob Parson of Dupont Tyler; and

WHEREAS, the following 6th graders who received honors were 1st place Valisa Griffin of Dupont Tyler, 2nd place honors Crystal Harwell, and 3rd place recognition to Morgan Massey of Dupont Tyler; and

WHEREAS, Erin McDonough placed third in the district with her speech "Building Blocks and Safety Nets"; other participants at the district event were Valisa Griffin, Andrew Alms, and Jessica Miller; and

WHEREAS, through participation in the 4-H public speaking program, the 4-H members gained self-confidence as well as valuable communication skills that they will use in the work place and their personal lives; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize and commend each participant in the 4-H public speaking competition for their outstanding accomplishments.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Davidson County 4-H members who participated in the 4-H Public Speaking Contest for 2001.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to each Davidson County 4-H member who placed in the Public Speaking Contest.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
