RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-605

A resolution recognizing the Girls and Boys District Basketball MVPs, the District Coaches and Assistant Coaches of the Year for 2000-2001.

WHEREAS, the Girls and Boys Basketball District MVPs were voted the best of the best as chosen by the head coaches for not only their outstanding athletic abilities, but for their team play, their sportsmanship, their performance, hard work, positive attitude and dedication to excellence; and

WHEREAS, the District Coaches and Assistant Coaches of the Year are chosen by their peers for their service, dedication and enthusiasm in teaching high school student athletes by leadership and example; and

WHEREAS, the following student-athletes were named District MVPs by leading their respective team during the playoffs, 9A Boys - Boomer Herndon of Donelson Christian Academy, 9A Girls - Kristin Scoggins of Ezell-Harding, 9AA Boys Co-MVP - Brandon Howard of Martin Luther King and Roger Birdsong of Page, 9AA Girls - Kera Bergeron of Lipscomb, 11AAA Girls - Tiania Burns of Pearl-Cohn, 12AAA Boys - Jacques Curry of Stratford, 12AAA Girls - Ashlie Gilland of Hunters Lane, Division II Boys - David Harrison of Brentwood Academy, Division II Girls - Becky Brown of Harpeth Hall; and

WHEREAS, the following District Coaches of the Year are, 9A Boys Head Keith Edwards of Goodpasture and Assistant Fred Lee of East Literature, 9A Girls Head Joey Spann of Ezell Harding and Assistant Lynn Dearing of Goodpasture, 9AA Boys Head James "Doc" Shelton of Martin Luther King and Assistant Ritchie Pickens of Lipscomb, 9AA Girls Head Angela Hubbard of Hume-Fogg and Assistant Ernie Smith of Lipscomb, 11AAA Assistant John Boucher of Brentwood, 11AAA Girls Head Kala Wiggins of Overton and Assistant Todd Douthit of Overton, 12AAA Boys Head James Winrow of Stratford and Assistant Romy Reed of Stratford, 12AAA Girls Head Mary Beth Coombs of Antioch and Assistant Anthony Sewell of Hunters Lane, Division II Boys Head Doug Bontrager of Father Ryan and Assistant Jerry Meyer of Montgomery Bell Academy, Division II Girls Head Chip Fridrich of Harpeth Hall and Assistant Karen Schwartz of Harpeth Hall; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize the Girls and Boys Basketball District MVPs on their outstanding basketball abilities and the District Coaches and Assistant Coaches of the Year for their accomplishments.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Girls and Boys District Basketball MVPs, the District Coaches and Assistant Coaches of the Year.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to copy of this Resolution to be presented to each District MVP and Coaches of the Year.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
