A resolution recognizing Butch Spyridon, Executive Vice President of the Convention and Visitors Bureau.

WHEREAS, Butch Spyridon has been Executive Vice President of the Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau since 1991, and has, along with an outstanding staff, assisted in the development of the Nashville Sports Council, helped recruit the Tennessee Titans to Nashville, and sold over 6.5 million room nights over the past 10 years; and

WHEREAS, on Monday, February 19, 2001, at the Sales & Marketing Executives of Nashville ceremony Mr. Butch Spyridon, received recognition as Nashville's National Salesperson of the Year; and

WHEREAS, the National Salesperson of the Year award has been awarded annually since 1962, which honors an individual in the Nashville area who has brought business and national attention to the city; and

WHEREAS, candidates for the award must represent an organization with a proven track record of sales and profitability; be visible in "selling" Nashville at every opportunity; and be positioned in the regional, national or international marketplace in such a way that their personal efforts ultimately contribute to improving the Middle Tennessee economy; and

WHEREAS, past recipients of this award include Governor Ned McWherter, Mayor Phil Bredesen and Predators Owner Craig Leipold; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Spyridon was nominated for his consistency in attracting new attention to the Nashville area through creative promotion methods; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Executive Vice President Butch Spyridon on receiving this award.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Butch Spyridon, Executive Vice President of the Convention and Visitors Bureau.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Butch Spyridon.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
