RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-595

A resolution recognizing Assistant Police Chief Charles Smith upon his retirement from service with the Metropolitan Police Department.

WHEREAS, on May 1, 2001, Assistant Police Chief Charles Smith stepped down from his position after thirty-one years of faithful and dedicated service to his employees, colleagues and the citizens of Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, this distinguished public servant began his career in 1970 with the Metropolitan Police Department as sergeant in 1978, lieutenant in 1982, captain in 1987, and assistant chief of the department's uniform services bureau in 1996; and

WHEREAS, in February of 2000, Assistant Police Chief Charles Smith became head of the Administrative Services Bureau, where he oversees the department's training, communications, planning and research, professional standards, personnel and record components; and

WHEREAS, it is men like Assistant Police Chief Charles Smith who selflessly give of their time and energy to make the communities of Davidson County a better place to live and work; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Assistant Police Chief Charles Smith on his outstanding contributions to the field of law enforcement in Tennessee.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Assistant Police Chief Charles Smith upon his retirement from service with the Metropolitan Police Department.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Assistant Police Chief Charles Smith.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
