A resolution honoring Rose Marie Robertson, M.D. on her outstanding contributions to the medical field.

Whereas, Dr. Rose Marie Robertson has been on the faculty of Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee since 1975, and now serves as Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine and Director of the Vanderbilt Women's Heart Institute; and

Whereas, Dr. Robertson is an Investigator in the Vanderbilt Center for Space Physiology and Medicine using the micro-gravity environment of space flight to define human physiology; and

Whereas, Dr. Robertson has been elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation, is a founding member of the Association for Patient-Oriented Research and has served on advisory committees and review boards for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute; and

Whereas, Dr. Robertson has been involved with the American Heart Association as a scientist, a volunteer and as a member and chair of numerous committees seeking currently is the first Nashvillian to serve as the Associations national President; and

Whereas, Dr. Robertson has served on numerous boards of directors and elected positions at the local, state and national levels of the Heart Association and is the current national President of the American Heart Association and the first Nashville physician to hold this office; and

Whereas, Dr. Robertson received the Gold Heart Award and the Tennessee Affiliate of American Heart Association in 1993 for her contributions as a volunteer and research scientist and, in June 1999, received the national Award of Meritorious Achievement for "rendering an important service to the American Heart Association in the development of its national programs"; and

Whereas, Dr. Robertson was recognized at the Nashville Heart Gala in February, 2001, as its Honorary Chairman in recognition of her numerous contributions to the prevention and fight against premature death and disabilities due to heart disease and strokes; and

Whereas, Dr. Robertson champions for and actively participates in educating the public, practitioners and, especially women, on the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease and continuously seeks to attract young scientists into medical, research and academic careers in the field of cardiovascular science.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as honoring Dr. Rose Marie Robertson for her outstanding contributions in the medical field.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is requested to prepare a copy of this resolution to be presented to Dr. Rose Marie Robertson.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take affect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
