RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-579

A resolution encouraging Country Music Television to give songwriter credits on videos.

WHEREAS, Nashville and our city's music is unique and thousands of people who have chosen to make the creative art form of songwriting their life have move to Nashville because our city is the home of this craft; and

WHEREAS, while Music Television Video (MTV) or other genres of music may not choose to honor the songwriter, the City of Nashville should embrace ever possible opportunity to hold up the songwriters who have chosen to love and work here; and

WHEREAS, from the eighty (80) songwriters who called Nashville their home in 1967, our city has grown to boast tens of thousands of songwriters and aspiring songwriters who consider Nashville Music City U.S.A. and the mecca of their craft; and

WHEREAS, for thirty-four (34) years the motto of the Nashville Songwriters Association International has been: "It All Begins With A Song", and without the song there is no video and there is no Country Music Television or MTV or record industry.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as encouraging Country Music Television to give songwriter credits on videos.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Country Music Television.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
