RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-577
A resolution proclaiming the weekend of April 20th through April 23rd, 2001 as the first annual "Marcus Robertson Celebrity Weekend".
WHEREAS, this event not only benefits the Marcus Robertson Children's Foundation, but the Middle Tennessee Council Boy Scouts of America, both focusing on increasing the awareness of services they provide, and raise money to continue their great work; and
WHEREAS, the "Marcus Robertson Celebrity Weekend" will involve three days of exciting and fun-filled activities and events to include activities geared toward all walks of life; and
WHEREAS, exciting activities planned as part of the "Marcus Robertson Celebrity Weekend" include the celebrity field day challenge, and basketball tournament; and
WHEREAS, the Marcus Robertson Children's Foundation started in Houston, Texas in 1995, then moving to Nashville, Tennessee, as a foundation to help children reach and achieve their dreams; and
WHEREAS, the Foundation's goal is to provide financial assistance, educational tools, experiences and memories to help impact the lives of inner-city youth, at-risk children, and underprivileged youth in our community; and
WHEREAS, the Middle Tennessee Council Boy Scouts of America also believes in developing the total child in providing educational programs, to build character, train youth in the responsibilities of participating citizenship and develop personal fitness; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize the Marcus Robertson Children's Foundation and Middle Tennessee Council Boy Scouts of America for their involvement in the community and in impacting the lives of today's youth.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as proclaiming the weekend of April 20th through April 23rd, 2001, as the first annual "Marcus Robertson Celebrity Weekend".
SECTION 2. That The Metropolitan County Council is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Marcus Robertson on behalf of the Marcus Robertson Children's Foundation; Irvin Parish, Area III Field Director; and Harold Witherspoon on behalf of the Middle Tennessee Council Boy Scouts of America.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
