RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-569
A resolution authorizing the Mayor to submit an application for a Byrne grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Criminal Justice Programs acting through the Metropolitan Public Defender's Office to establish a program to assist children in juvenile court.
Whereas, the Federal Government
is accepting applications for the FY 2001/2002 Byrne Grant Program, administered
through the Office of Criminal Justice; and,
Whereas, the Metropolitan Public Defender's Office is eligible to participate
in the grant program; and,
Whereas, the Federal Government requires that the grant application be approved
by resolution, motion, or similar act of the applicant's governing body; and,
Whereas, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government
of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant application be approved and
submitted; and,
Whereas, the Public Defender's Office hereby accepts oversight and management
responsibility of the grant and the matching funds;
Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Council of The Metropolitan Government
of Nashville and Davidson County:
Section 1. That Metropolitan
Mayor is authorized to submit an application for a 2001/2002 Byrne Grant through
the Office of Criminal Justice Programs, a copy of which is attached hereto
and incorporated herein.
Section 2. That the funds for any required match of dollars received shall be
provided through the budget of the Public Defender's Office, and that office
accepts oversight and management responsibility of the grant and matching funds.
Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
