RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-562

A resolution requesting the Finance Department of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County to look for emergency funds to assist The Women's Center.

Whereas, The Women's Center offers an intensive rehabilitation program for female substance abusers upon release from the criminal justice system; and

Whereas, The Women's Center has accomplished an 86% success rate in keeping participants from incarceration; and

Whereas, The Women's Center has served the Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County area for four years and has gained the respect and support of those in the field of criminal justice; and

Whereas, The Women's Center is in a financial crisis and does not have the necessary local match to apply for a federal grant; and

Whereas, without additional funding, The Women's Center will have to close its doors in June 2001; and

Whereas, it is in the best interest of the people of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County that The Women's Center continue to operate and serve this population of women.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Department of Finance to look for emergency funds to assist The Women's Center.

Section 2. This resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
