RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-539

A resolution recognizing Mr. Bernard McGehee.

WHEREAS, Mr. Bernard McGehee is a prominent member of this community and has been a business executive with Athen's Distributors for more than 30 years; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Bernard McGehee is a native of Nashville attending Stokes Elementary School and Hillsboro High School, as well as Georgia Tech and Middle Tennessee State University; and

WHEREAS, his service to this community included more than a decade as a member of the Taxicab and Wrecker Licensing Board where he was always available to staff for guidance and assistance while he always held the public's best interests at heart when directing the Board's actions; and

WHEREAS, Bernard McGee served as chairman of the Taxicab and Licensing Board during a period of great change and progress as he oversaw the development of the Board into an independent operation then presided over the development of new ordinances governing the regulation of both the taxicab and wrecker industries in Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, he led collaboration with taxicab and wrecker industries to improve the industries while giving selflessly of his time for scheduled and extraordinary meetings to ensure cooperation and understanding; and

WHEREAS, his leadership has made the Transportation Licensing Commission a model and example for other cities throughout the nation, and Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County is considered to be one of the best regulated cities in the world due in large part to his skills as a leader; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Mr. Bernard McGehee for his service to the community.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Bernard McGehee on his retirement from the Transportation Licensing Commission.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. Bernard McGehee.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
