RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-537
A resolution recognizing churches in Davidson County, City of Nashville chosen as having outstanding congregations in America.
WHEREAS, Mr. Paul Wilkes, noted Catholic writer, organized a research project
in finding the best of the best in churches, selecting from over a pool of 100,000;
and
WHEREAS, his goal was to identify American congregations that challenge worshippers to action, who have innovative but reverential worship, Bible-based but not "feel-good" preaching, openness to diversity and collaborative decision-making; and
WHEREAS, the following churches are well-deserving of this recognition, Bellevue Presbyterian, Cathedral of the Incarnation, Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church, First Baptist Church in Hendersonville, First Presbyterian Church, Hobson United Methodist Church, Old Hickory Church of Christ, Temple Church, and Una Church of Christ; and
WHEREAS, these churches demonstrate a fresh approach and particular style in presenting the message in their own special ways, they continue to grow and to undertake many worthy projects within the community, share a welcoming attitude to visitors, promote acceptance, and engage members in social outreach; and
WHEREAS, over the years, with the guidance and wise stewardship of its leaders these congregations have been a tremendous source of inspiration to many individuals in there churches and community; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize and congratulate each church and their congregation on receiving this special recognition.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing churches in Davidson County, City of Nashville chosen as outstanding congregations in America.
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to each church on behalf of their congregation.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
