RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-536

A resolution recognizing Larry Brinton upon his retirement from News Channel 5.

WHEREAS, on January 5, 2001, Larry Brinton, investigative reporter, native Nashvillian, resigned from News Channel 5 after twenty years of faithful and dedicated service to his employees, colleagues and the citizens of Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, in 1955, Larry Brinton began his career with the Nashville Banner serving as both reporter and managing editor with over 24 years before joining News Channel 5; and

WHEREAS, during his distinguished broadcasting career, Larry has reported on hundreds of exclusive stories; and

WHEREAS, some of his specific accomplishments include receiving an Emmy for the "Feed the Children" investigation, awarded membership in the distinguished Silver Circle, and a founding member of NewsChannel 5+; and

WHEREAS, today's viewers know Mr. Brinton for his ability of getting people to tell him their story on "Street Talk" segments and as one of the anchors of Morning Line; and

WHEREAS, in addition to being featured in a book as one of the country's top investigative reporters, a film "Marie, A True Story" was created based upon the book in which Mr. Brinton played himself; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Larry Brinton on his outstanding broadcasting career.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Larry Brinton upon his retirement from News Channel 5.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Larry Brinton.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
