RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-523

A resolution recognizing Mr. Wesley Roberts as the "Environmental Educator of the Year" for 2000.

WHEREAS, Mr. Wesley Roberts, educator at Hillwood High School for 14 years, received the "Environmental Educator of the Year" from the Tennessee Environmental Education Association; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Roberts is well known throughout the state for his educational activities and his outstanding teaching ability of ecology to our young people; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Roberts' excellent repertoire of teaching strategies, creativity, innovation, and vision have been important assets in bringing enthusiasm and energy to the class room; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Roberts creativity teachings are seen throughout school projects such as the school wide aluminum and paper recycling program, student news broadcast, an outdoor classroom, tree planting on campus, internships for students, and outdoor weekends; and

WHEREAS, throughout his teaching career, Mr. Roberts has been awarded with the 1998 K-12 Environmental Awareness Award and two HCA grants, the last grant called "A River Runs Through It - Interpreting Biomes in North America"; and

WHEREAS, it is men like Mr. Roberts who has unselfishly given of his time, talents, and energy after school and on week ends to give students valuable lessons about the world we live in; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Mr. Wesley Roberts for his dedication, determination and commitment to student learning in ecology.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Mr. Wesley Roberts as the "Environmental Educator of the Year" for 2000.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. Wesley Roberts.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
