RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-521

A resolution recognizing Ora Knies on the grand occasion of her 100th birthday.


WHEREAS, on Saturday, January 13, 2001, Ora Knies celebrated her 100th birthday with beloved family and friends at a reception in her honor at St. Stephens Catholic Church; and

WHEREAS, born January 13, 1901, in Hess, Oklahoma to John and Ann Zimmerman, Ora was one of eleven siblings; and

WHEREAS, Ora has been blessed with a wonderful family that has included three sons, eleven grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild; and

WHEREAS, since this is her 100th birthday, Ora has been privileged to witness events most of us only read about in history books; and

WHEREAS, not only was she a devoted housewife and mother she played a very active role at church, before beginning her career in retail work at Sullivan's Department Store, Cain-Sloan Department Store and Ceglier's Clothing Store during the 1950's; and

WHEREAS, today, she enjoys traveling, volunteering her time, talents and energy to community projects, a member of the lady's quilting group at her church and in addition Ora sang in the church choir, recently gave up bowling and still drives herself to the store; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Ora Knies and extend their best wishes for health and happiness as she embarks on her second 100-year journey.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Ora Knies on the grand occasion of her 100th birthday.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Ora Knies.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
