RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-494
A resolution requesting that the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly introduce and adopt legislation that would require proof of motor vehicle liability insurance before motor vehicles may be registered or have registration renewed by County Clerks.
WHEREAS, persons who own motor vehicles
should be required to have sufficient motor vehicle liability insurance to afford
financial protection for persons and property that may be damaged as result
of motor vehicle accidents; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate that to assure such protection for the health, safety, and welfare of the people of Tennessee such insurance protection be required prior to registration or renewal of motor vehicles in Tennessee.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby requests that the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly introduce and adopt legislation that would require proof of motor vehicle liability insurance before motor vehicles may be registered or have registration renewed by County Clerks.
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to each member of the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
