RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-491

A resolution encouraging the promotion of training for use of automatic external defibrillators and training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation among the citizens of the area of the Metropolitan Government to promote improved cardiac survival rates.

WHEREAS, increased training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the training and use of automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) by members of the public, as well as those persons in the emergency medical services and health care professions, has been demonstrated to vastly improve the chance of survival in cases of cardiac arrest; and

WHEREAS, a number of businesses and community organizations within the area of the Metropolitan Government have undertaken to promote and utilize CPR and AED training; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council encourage and promote CPR and AED training within the area of the Metropolitan Government.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as encouraging the promotion of training for use of automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) and training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) among the citizens of the area of the Metropolitan Government to promote improved cardiac survival rates.

SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
