RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-480

A resolution requesting the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to introduce and have enacted legislation which would require seat belts on all school buses.

WHEREAS, safety for children when transporting them to and from school is of the utmost importance; and

WHEREAS, requiring and utilization of seat belts on school buses could provide additional measures to promote safety when school buses are involved in accidents.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to introduce and have enacted legislation which would require seat belts on all school buses.

SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to each member of the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly.

SECTION 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

AMENDMENT NO.1

TO

RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-480

Mr. President:

I move to amend Resolution No. RS2001-480 by amending Section 1 thereof by adding the following provision:

"Such legislation should be transitional and the requirements made applicable only to school buses acquired after the adoption of this legislation, and should not require that any existing school buses be retrofitted with such seat belts."
