RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-470

A resolution recognizing the John Overton High School Marching Band.

WHEREAS, on October 28-29, 2000, the John Overton High School Marching Band of Nashville, Tennessee, competed with bands from Kentucky, Tennessee and other Southeastern states at the Contest of Champions at MTSU; and

WHEREAS, the John Overton High School Marching Band has established itself as one of the premier high school bands in the southeast; and

WHEREAS, the John Overton High School Marching Band won one of the top two scores in winning the reserve grand championship; and

WHEREAS, the band spends many long hours in preparation for its spectacular performances which feature music and drill of a considerably complex and difficult nature than that performed by other bands; and

WHEREAS, the band's outstanding musical accomplishments are the direct result of the unparalleled musical talent, persistent hard work, and unselfish dedication of the members of the band, the superlative leadership provided by the band directors Ms. Jo Ann Hood & Mr. David Aydelott; and the magnificent support of the parents, administration, and student body of John Overton High School; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize and commend the John Overton High School Marching Band for their exemplary and superior musical accomplishments and extend to all members of the band their sincerest best wishes for continued future success.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the John Overton High School Marching Band.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of the Resolution to be presented to Band Directors Ms. Jo Ann Hood and Mr. David Aydelott, Field Commanders, Kati Anderson and Seth Hudson, on behalf of each member of the John Overton High School Marching Band.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
