RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-468

A resolution recognizing Sharon Holloway upon her resignation from the Nashville Volunteer Literacy Program.

WHEREAS, Sharon Holloway resigned from the Nashville Volunteer Literacy Program after eighteen years of faithful and dedicated service to her colleagues and the citizens of Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, the purpose of this non-profit group is to provide education services, such as tutoring, for adults who read at the level of six-grade or below; and

WHEREAS, Sharon Holloway began her work with the Nashville Volunteer Literacy Program as coordinator in 1982, were her main goal was to recruit adult teachers and volunteers, but she also trained these volunteers and persevered in finding funding to operate the program; and

WHEREAS, Sharon Holloway provided administrative responsibilities and performed outreach duties in the community to expand the program; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Sharon Holloway for her many hours and efforts of teaching adults to read.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Sharon Holloway upon her resignation from the Nashville Volunteer Literacy Program.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Sharon Holloway.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
