RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-460

A resolution recognizing Director Lester "Buddy" Williams upon his retirement from Metro Water Services.

WHEREAS, on December 31, 2000, Lester "Buddy" Williams retired from the Metropolitan Water Services after thirty-two years of faithful and dedicated service to his employees, colleagues and the citizens of Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Williams has been with the Metro Water Services since September 16, 1968, and has served as Director since July 1, 1987; and

WHEREAS, under Mr. Williams' constructive leadership, Metro Water Services has provided to the Department guidance and leadership necessary for the success of an Overflow Abatement Program that is the largest sewer program ever encountered by the City of Nashville and Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Williams has been the primary factor in the development of a successful re-engineering process for Metro Water Services, and has spent countless hours promoting this program to the general public and the Metropolitan Council; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Williams was instrumental in facilitating a twenty-five percent water rate decrease to Metro Water Services' customers; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Williams has been recognized by numerous professional organizations including being named by the American Water Works Association as recipient of the Fuller Award in 1995 for distinguished services in the water supply field, served as Director of the Kentucky-Tennessee Section of the American Water Works Association 1995 through 1998, as Trustee in the American Water Works Association Research Foundation 1997 through 2000, received the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies the 1995 President's Award, served as President of the Metropolitan Water Agencies October 1998 through December 2000, was presented the "Government Engineer of the Year" and also the "Engineer of the Year 2000" awards by the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers in 1999; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize and honor Lester "Buddy" Williams for his outstanding service to the Metropolitan Government and to the Nashville community.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Lester "Buddy" Williams upon his retirement from the Director of Metro Water Services.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a hand-letter scroll to be presented to Lester "Buddy" Williams.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
