RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-97

A resolution honoring Mr. C. David Stringfield.

WHEREAS, Mr. C. David Stringfield, graduated from Isaac Litton High School in Nashville, and further received degrees from Vanderbilt University and Peabody College in Nashville; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Stringfield was employed for 30 years at Baptist Hospital, initially as executive vice president, and served as president/chief executive officer from 1982 through 1998; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure as chief executive officer at Baptist Hospital, over $300 million in construction programs at Baptist Hospital were undertaken; and

WHEREAS, under Mr. Stringfield’s leadership, Baptist Hospital built the first outpatient surgery clinic and initiated the first preferred provider organization and began the largest public health education and corporate wellness programs; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Stringfield has received numerous awards and in recognition of his service, in 1987 a building was dedicated to him at Baptist Hospital; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Stringfield has served as a board member and participated in numerous organizations, both in the healthcare areas and also church, not-for-profit, and public service organizations; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan County Council honor C. David Stringfield for his service to the area of the Metropolitan Government.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring Mr. C. David Stringfield for his outstanding service and leadership, not only as the chief executive officer of Baptist Hospital, but also for his contributions to the community at-large.

SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is hereby directed to prepare a hand-lettered scroll to be presented to Mr. C. David Stringfield.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

AMENDMENT NO. 1

TO

RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-97

Mr. President:

I move to amend Resolution No. RS2000-97 by deleting the phrase "hand lettered scroll" wherein it appears in Section 2 thereof, and substituting in lieu thereof the phrase "printed scroll".
