RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-95
A resolution honoring Mansfield Douglas III.
WHEREAS, Mansfield Douglas III was a Charter Member of the Metropolitan County Council and served as a member of the council from 1963 through 1999; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Douglas served as a member of the council longer than any person in history; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Douglas was elected to the Metropolitan County Council for nine consecutive terms, demonstrating his service to the community; and
WHEREAS, by serving for such an extended time, Mr. Douglas was the Metro Council representative from District Nos. 17, 27 and 28; and
WHEREAS, through his tenure as a member of council, Mr. Douglas became an advocate for those residents of the Metropolitan Government who were less fortunate; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Douglas was responsible in no small part for increasing and improving race relations both by personal example and through his oratory on the floor of the council; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Douglas will long be recognized and remembered as a treasure of the Metropolitan Government for his faithful, untiring service to not only the residents of his district, but to all people of the Metropolitan Government.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring Mansfield Douglas III for his 36 years of service as a member of the Metropolitan County Council and for his outstanding dedication to public service.
SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is hereby directed to prepare a hand-lettered scroll to be presented to Mansfield Douglas III.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
