RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-407

A resolution honoring the 2000 Davidson Academy “Lady Bears” Girls Class A-AA Golf Team.

WHEREAS, the state tournament was held October 17-18, 2000, in Burns, Tennessee, at Montgomery Bell State Park, were the Davidson Academy “Lady Bears” Girls Golf Team won their sixth consecutive TSSAA Class A-AA state title; and

WHEREAS, going into the final day of competition on Wednesday the “Lady Bears” four shots back heading into the final 9 holes when the team showed great composure and determination by hitting big shots when needed to take a three shot victory over David Lipscomb; and

WHEREAS, the Davidson Academy “Lady Bears”, won both their district and region tournaments; and

WHEREAS, the team is coached by first-year Coach Kevin Maggard, who should be commended for doing an exceptional job in maintaining a winning tradition; and

WHEREAS, members of this talented team are Jamey Dillard, Ginna Beazley and Lauren Oeser; and

WHEREAS, freshman Jamey Dillard, playing in her second consecutive state championship, finished an impressive tie for fifth place in the individual standings, in addition to finishing second place in the District tournament and first place in the Region tournament; and

WHEREAS, freshman Ginna Beazley, playing in her second state championship, also did a commendable job at the state tournament by finishing in a tie for eighth place, in addition to finishing first in the District tournament and third in the Region tournament; and

WHEREAS, eighth grader Lauren Oeser, playing in her first state championship, did a commendable job at the state tournament by finishing in the top fifty-percent, in addition to her third place finish in the District tournament; and

WHEREAS, by their performance the players and coach have brought recognition to the Metropolitan Government area for not only their athletic abilities, but for their team play, their sportsmanship and their dedication; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council honor the Davidson Academy Girls Golf Team on again winning the TSSAA Class A-AA State Golf championship.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1.  The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring the 2000 Davidson Academy “Lady Bears” Girls Class A-AA Golf Team.

SECTION 2.  The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is hereby directed to prepare certificates to be presented to the coach, and to each member of the team.

SECTION 3.  This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
