RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-404

A resolution recognizing the Native American Indian Association on the occasion of their 19th Annual Pow-Wow and Fall Festival celebration.

WHEREAS, the 19th Annual Pow-Wow and Fall Festival of the Native American Indian Association will be celebrated October 20-22, 2000; and

WHEREAS, the Pow-Wow and Fall Festival is the main fundraiser of the year for the Native American Indian Association of Tennessee, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, this association is a non-profit organization that serves the 13,000 Native American Indians who live in Tennessee in assisting them with job training and placement, scholarships, educational services, health services, emergency assistance in times of need and other assistance as needed; and

WHEREAS, this annual Pow-Wow is one of the largest east of the Mississippi River, bringing together over 20,000 Native Americans from across North America to attend this three-day celebration; and

WHEREAS, this amazing festival, features everything from Native American dancers, traditional storytellers, music and musical instruments, foods, arts and crafts, clothing and literature on all North American tribes plus many other Native American traditions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Native American Indian Association on the occasion of their 19th Annual Pow-Wow and Fall Festival celebration.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of the Resolution to be presented to the Native American Indian Association.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
