RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-399

A resolution recognizing Ms. Drue H. Smith for her dedication to journalism.

WHEREAS, Ms. Drue Smith is a Capital Hill Correspondent for radio and TV stations, both state wide and network, and for the Green Hills, Belle Meade, West Meade, West Side and Nashville Today Newspapers; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Drue Smith began her career in journalism in Chattanooga as society editor of both daily papers and host of a TV show, called Drue's Party Line; and

WHEREAS, in addition to lending her journalistic talents to Capitol Hill and newspapers, Drue Smith has devoted countless hours of her time to her community. She is a tireless volunteer, always first in line to lead a community project, work on a fundraiser, or serve when needed in any capacity; and

WHEREAS, her dedication to journalism has repeatedly been recognized with numerous honors and awards, including Broadcaster of the Year, named the 133rd Honorary Member of the Tennessee General Assembly, Honorary Member of the Tennessee Broadcasters Association, Honorary Tennessee National Guard and Honored at the Governor's Residence; and

WHEREAS, some of her specific accomplishments include serving as Honorary Chair for the Women's Political Caucus in 1998, Honorary Chairman for Hero's for Heart in 1999, and President of the Society of Professional Journalists for three terms; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Ms. Drue H. Smith for opening doors for women in the field of journalism.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Ms. Drue Smith.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
