A resolution recognizing the Sister-Cities of Nashville.

Whereas, it has been brought to the attention of the Metropolitan Council that Sister-Cities of Nashville is entering into discussions with the city of Venice, Italy with the intent to establish a Sister-City relationship between our two great cities; and

Whereas, Mayor Bill Purcell has authorized formal commencement of these discussions on behalf of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee; and

Whereas, the members of this Metropolitan Council wish to formally recognize, encourage and support such discussions between our cities since such a relationship would be beneficial to the citizens of both communities; and

Whereas, that the Metropolitan Council hereby approves the initiation of discussions by Sister-Cities of Nashville with the city of Venice, Italy with the intent that our two great cities actively explore the possibility of becoming Sister-Cities to promote the cultural, educational and economic exchanges that will benefit both of our communities as we continue into this new millennium.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Sister-Cities of Nashville.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is requested to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Professsor Paolo Costa, Mayor of Venice.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
