RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-363

A resolution proclaiming October 17, 2000, as Philanthropy Day in Nashville.

WHEREAS, National Philanthropy Day is where we remember and pay tribute to those people active in the philanthropic community; and

WHEREAS, from generous donors, hard working volunteers, international non-profit to the community center in the local neighborhood, each makes an indelible contribution to our communities, our nation, and our world; and

WHEREAS, in Davidson County human service non-profit organizations employ over 10,000 individuals; and

WHEREAS, these organizations collectively serve every citizen in the Nashville MSA through their hard work and dedication to improving the quality of life for everyone in the Nashville community; and

WHEREAS, the National Society of Fundraising Executives (NSFRE) is an organization made up of fundraising executives who work for philanthropic groups; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize National Philanthropy Day in Nashville.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as proclaiming October 17, 2000, as Philanthropy Day in Nashville.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Cynthia Crane, President of the Nashville Chapter of the NSFRE.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
