RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-361

A resolution proclaiming the week of October 1-7, 2000, as 2000 National 4-H Week.

WHEREAS, the 4-H Program of the Tennessee Agricultural Extension Service is one of the state’s premier youth organizations; and

WHEREAS, the 4-H Program members from Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County are among the most active participants; and

WHEREAS, the youth of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County are its greatest natural resource; and

WHREAS, 4-H is the largest youth development organization in Tennessee with 180,340 youth involved; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County 4-H program is the largest in Tennessee with 7,005 active 4-H members enrolled in 268 clubs and groups led by 347 adult volunteer leaders and six Davidson County Extension Service agents; and

WHEREAS, 4-H is the youth educational program jointly led by Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County Government and Tennessee’s two land-grant universities, The University of Tennessee and Tennessee State University, to help youth become self-directing, productive, contributing members of the community; and

WHEREAS, 4-H members "Learn by Doing" through participation in leadership, public speaking, communication, citizenship, and other life skill building activities in over 40 project areas and performance of community service all over Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council, commend the 4-H Program of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County and extend a warm welcome to its members and leaders on the occasion of their visit.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as proclaiming the week of October 1-7, 2000, as 2000 National 4-H Week.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan County Council is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the Davidson County 4-H.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
