RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-340

A resolution accepting donations not to exceed $87,000.00 to be used to reward private citizens for providing assistance or information leading to the arrest of Paul Reid by the Metropolitan Police Department.

Whereas, Paul Reid was convicted of multiple murders in Davidson County, Tennessee, and has been sentenced to death; and

Whereas, while the case was under investigation, numerous entities, including the State of Tennessee and various private sources, have pledged reward money for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Paul Reid; and

Whereas, a committee was established to discuss the reward money situation, including eligibility for rewards (the "Reward Committee"); and

Whereas, in the McDonald's case, the Reward Committee determined that of the $43,000.00 in reward money pledged, two (2) citizens should receive such money; and

Whereas, in the Captain D's case in which $44,000.00 in reward money was pledged, the Reward Committee voted that five (5) citizens should receive the reward money; and

Whereas, it is deemed to in the best interest of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County and its citizens to accept private donations and donations from the State of Tennessee necessary to offer rewards for assistance or information leading to the arrest of persons committing crimes against the citizens of Davidson County and the State of Tennessee.

Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Metropolitan Council of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County:

Section 1: That the donation of reward money from the State of Tennessee or private sources in an amount not to exceed $87,000.00 is hereby accepted for distribution to eligible persons who gave information or assistance leading to the arrest and conviction of Paul Reid.

Section 2: That this resolution shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
