RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-280
A resolution authorizing the Metropolitan Department of Law to approve an Interim Agreement with the United States Department of Justice.
Whereas, Executive Order No. 99-04 established the ADA Task Force to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the Metropolitan Government's compliance with Title II of the Americans With Disabilities Act, (ADA), and the ADA Task Force has recommended certain improvements to bring the Metropolitan Government more fully into compliance with the ADA; and
Whereas, the Metropolitan Government voluntarily disclosed the status of its Title II ADA compliance to the United States Department of Justice to preserve its eligibility for receipt of federal funding; and
Whereas, the United States Department of Justice has agreed to execute an Interim Agreement with the Metropolitan Government that ensures Metro's continued eligibility to receive federal funds while Metro completes its ADA compliance efforts; and
Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Council of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Department of Law is authorized to enter into an Interim Agreement with the Department of Justice that compromises and settles the claims of the United States Department of Justice by agreeing to bring its programs, services, activities, and facilities into compliance with Title II of the ADA.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
