RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-273

A resolution honoring the 2000 International Country Music Fan Fair.

WHEREAS, Nashville has enjoyed and benefited from the annual International Country Music Fan Fair celebration since its inception in 1972 to honor and entertain Country Music fans; and

WHEREAS, Fan Fair, co-sponsored by the Country Music Association and the Grand Ole Opry, has experienced tremendous growth in its 29-year history; and

WHEREAS, since its inception Fan Fair has contributed nearly $150 million to the Nashville and Davidson County economy; and

WHEREAS, Fan Fair continues to attract thousands of fans from around the world each year, most recently bringing 21,600 fans to Nashville for the 2000 event; and

WHEREAS, Fan Fair once again had a major economic impact on Nashville in 2000 with conservative estimates of over $10 million; and

WHEREAS, for future Fan Fair celebrations, it is the desire of the sponsors to expand the annual celebration and relocate to a venue with the capability for attracting and managing a larger crowd and space for more diverse entertainment opportunities; and

WHEREAS, a variety of venues have been introduced as possibilities, including venues outside of Nashville – Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council honor the 2000 International Country Music Fan Fair for another outstanding year, and extend its appreciation and commendation to all those who are involved in supporting this Nashville tradition.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring the 2000 International Country Music Fan Fair.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council encourages the International Fan Fair to remain in Nashville.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
