Resolution No. RS2000-269

A resolution recognizing all participants, volunteers, organizers and sponsors of the Country Music Marathon.

WHEREAS, on April 29, 2000, over 7,500 participants ran in the Inaugural Country Music Marathon organized by EliteRacing; and

WHEREAS, without the over 3,000 volunteers giving of their time and hard work this Marathon would not have been such a great success; and

WHEREAS, the Country Music Marathon was ran in relay formation by members of the Metropolitan Council which consisted of Co-coordinators Ronnie Greer and Ginger Hausser and their illustrious team of Jason Alexander, Eileen Beehan, Chris Ferrell, Saletta Holloway, Michael Kerstetter, Vic Lineweaver, Amanda McClendon, Jim Shulman, Ludye N. Wallace, and Lynn Williams running on behalf of Census 2000; and

WHEREAS, competitor Councilmember Ludye N. Wallace, persevered by running and completing the 26.2 mile Marathon; and

WHEREAS, the sponsors include Nashville Sports Council, UPS, Timex, American Airlines, Smart Start, Nashville Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, Runner’s World, UPN Nashville, Fox 17 Nashville, Kroger, Country Music Television, PowerGel, Medic One, Country Music Association, Dixie, Lycos, Cooker, Ford, Morton’s, Nashville – Lifestyles, Nextel, Planet Hollywood, Sam’s Club, The Tennessean, SuperTalk – WTN, and Carb-BOOM; and

WHEREAS, the Country Music Marathon was very successful with not only participants throughout the state, but from other parts of the United States and the World; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council extends their gratitude to all involved in the Country Music Marathon.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council recognizes all participants, volunteers, organizers and sponsors of The Country Music Marathon.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as expressing its support of the Country Music Marathon and its appreciation for the support of the marathon by all its fans.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
