Resolution No. RS2000-268

A resolution honoring William H. Thompson, Jr. for his business and community service.

WHEREAS, William H. Thompson, Jr. was born in 1930 in Whites Creek, Tennessee, were he has remained a life-long resident and farmer-cattleman; and

WHEREAS, endowed with an independent and entrepreneurial spirit, Mr. Thompson has owned and operated his own dairy business for more then thirty-eight years; and

WHEREAS, some of his specific accomplishments include teaching college-level courses in Public Finance and Government at David Lipscomb College, worked as a securities broker, works in the cattle leasing operations, works with Madison Church of Christ, serves as Vice-Chairman of the Davidson County Agricultural Stabilization Committee, and serves as Vice-Chairman of the Davidson County Soil and Water Conservation District along with many other business ventures; and

WHEREAS, throughout his business career, Mr. Thompson always made time for his community. He is a tireless volunteer, always making time for a community project, worked on fundraisers, or served were he is needed; and

WHEREAS, William H. Thompson, Jr., has used his vision, skills, and energy in several initiatives that have brought great benefits to the citizens of Davidson County, including receiving the Metropolitan Historic Commission’s award for the annual outstanding commercial historic building restoration (Jesse James Saloon – Whites Creek), helped made Whites Creek designated a National Register Historic District and assisted with preventing the "landfill" from coming to the area; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council honor such a public servant like William H. Thompson, Jr., who selflessly gives of his time and talents in making the community of Whites Creek a better place to live and work.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as honoring William H. Thompson, Jr. for his outstanding community involvement.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of the Resolution to be presented to William H. Thompson, Jr.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
