Resolution No. RS2000-264

A resolution honoring Metro Detective Frank Pierce upon receiving the 2000 Theodore Roosevelt Association Police Award for Nashville and Middle Tennessee.

WHEREAS, Detective Frank Pierce joined the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department in 1969, as a civilian employee in the booking room, after completing police training he worked the patrol division then in the CID burglary section before transferring and becoming a valued member of the homicide unit; and

WHEREAS, Detective Frank Pierce, has served more than twenty (20) years with the Metropolitan Police Department, and is the third annual recipient of the Theodore Roosevelt Association Police Award; and

WHEREAS, this distinguished award was established by the Theodore Roosevelt Association, and supported by the Dantzler Bond Ansley Foundation, and given to police officers who have displayed unselfish heroism, courage, or other acts of bravery; and

WHEREAS, this award is named for Theodore Roosevelt in recognition of his years as president of the Board of Police Commissioners of New York City (1895-97) and his life-ling interest in police work and admiration for police officers; and

WHEREAS, this honor has been conferred upon Detective Pierce for outstanding and praise-worthy service to the Metropolitan Police Department, to which he returned to his job despite cancer treatments and surgery; and

WHEREAS, upon returning to his career as a detective he continues with the tasks that he had performed with tenacity for many years, carries a full workload and has been the primary investigator on several high-profile cases; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize and honor the services of Detective Frank Pierce for his outstanding contributions to the Metropolitan Government.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as honoring Metro Detective Frank Pierce upon receiving the 2000 Theodore Roosevelt Association Police Award for Nashville and Middle Tennessee.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Detective Frank Pierce.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
