Resolution No. RS2000-262

A resolution commending Sharae Cockrill as Tennessee’s Handwriting Champion.

WHEREAS, on Thursday, May 18, 2000, Sharae Cockrill of Alex Green Elementary School received her award during the schools annual awards ceremony; and

WHEREAS, Sharae perfected her penmanship with constant practice in the summer during second and third grades; and

WHEREAS, she demonstrated true excellence and determination by becoming the National Handwriting Contest State Champion; and

WHEREAS, she competed among approximately 100,500 students from around the country, an event sponsored by Zaner-Bloser the Nation’s leading publisher of handwriting texts for students in grades K-8; and

WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the accomplishments of students like Sharae Cockrill, who enter contests that emphasize the importance of good handwriting and motivates students to do their best work; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council commend this third grader’s hard work and extra effort in preparing and entering in The National Handwriting Contest.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as commending Sharae Cockrill as Tennessee’s Handwriting Champion.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of the Resolution to be presented to Ms. Sharae Cockrill.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
