Resolution No. RS2000-256
A resolution recognizing Dr Helen Brown upon her retirement from service with the Metropolitan Public School System.
WHEREAS, on June 30, 2000, Dr. Helen Brown, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and Administration for pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade retired from the Metropolitan Public School System after thirty-five years of dedicated and faithful service to education; and
WHEREAS, during her tenure she has also served as Director of Elementary Schools, Director of Curriculum and Instructional Programs K-8, Director of Programs and Staff Development, Consultant for Special Education, and teacher; and
WHEREAS, she has developed curriculum strategies and techniques which are currently utilized throughout all elementary and middle schools, and developed and implemented such programs as Comprehensive, Communications Reading Program (CCRP) and the Math Improvement Program (MIP); and
WHEREAS, Dr. Brown, spearheaded the implementation of Core Curriculum in the Metropolitan Public Schools and under her leadership this program has been implemented in all of the kindergarten through eighth-grade public schools in Nashville; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Brown is to be commended for her timeless efforts and dedication for the improvement of educational opportunities for children, she is an administrator who cares about and believes in her staff; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Brown will sorely be missed not only as a person and administrator but for her leadership in developing innovative teaching strategies for the children of this county; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Dr. Helen Brown upon her retirement from service with the Metropolitan Public School System.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Dr Helen Brown upon her retirement from service with the Metropolitan Public School System.
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Dr. Helen Brown.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
