Resolution No. RS2000-255

A resolution recognizing Adelaide Shull Davis.

WHEREAS, Adelaide Shull Davis, entered the service as a volunteer with the Red Cross, where she continues to work with the organization today; and

WHEREAS, this Nashville native and Vanderbilt graduate not only was a teacher at Eakin School, but an active member in her church and participates in a variety of civic groups that include the Junior League of Nashville and the MBA Auxiliary; and

WHEREAS, three organizations received the benefits of Adelaide’s passion, the Protestant Orphanage Foundation, which supported the Duncanwood Center for Handicapped Children; the Old Ladies Homes which was to become the West End Home; and the Salvation Army, which aids the underprivileged in the community; and

WHEREAS, today she continues to serve on a variety of boards, has been honored by several organizations over the years, and inducted as the only Nashville female life member of the Salvation Army; and

WHEREAS, at age 86, she remains active, playing tennis, bridge, piano and accordion, continuing to enjoy life and help others do the same to the fullest; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Adelaide Shull Davis for involvement in the community.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Adelaide Shull Davis.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Adelaide Shull Davis.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
