RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-229

A resolution requesting various departments and agencies of the Metropolitan Government to require that all non-governmental groups using public facilities assure that such groups utilizing such facilities not discriminate in participation based upon race, color, or national origin.

WHEREAS, numerous public facilities, such as park community centers, golf courses, tennis courts, school auditoriums, library meeting rooms, and other facilities owned by the Metropolitan Government are provided for use to various organizations and entities to assist in furthering and promoting their activities; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that such public facilities be made available from time to time for such organizations or groups to utilize such facilities; and

WHEREAS, it is also fitting and proper that there be assurance that such groups and organizations utilizing such facilities that they not engage in discrimination based on race, color, or national origin.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting various departments and agencies of the Metropolitan Government to require that all non-governmental groups using public facilities assure that such groups engaged in such activities will not discriminate based upon race, color, or national origin. If such groups do not comply, use of the facility would not be permitted.

SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Mayor, to all department heads of the Metropolitan Government, and to the Board of Public Education.

SECTION 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
