RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-212
A resolution proclaiming May 1, 2000, as Law Day in Nashville and recognizing the Davidson County Chancellors.
WHEREAS, this year marks the 43rd annual celebration of Law Day in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Law Day is an opportunity to expand awareness of our laws and justice system through special presentations and educational activities that can help citizens focus on their rights and responsibilities; and
WHEREAS, our judges play an essential role in our legal system in safeguarding the rights and freedom of the citizens of our state, nation and county; and
WHEREAS, judge Kilcrease, McCoy and Lyle have heard over 3,751 Chancery cases alone in 1999; and
WHEREAS, native Nashvillian Irvin H. Kilcrease, Jr. has served as judge of Chancery Court, Part One, since September 25, 1980; and
WHEREAS, Chancellor Carol L. McCoy, has been on the bench since September of 1996, and serves as judge of Chancery Court, Part Two; and
WHEREAS, Chancellor Ellen Hobbs Lyle, has been on the bench since June of 1995, and serves as judge of Chancery Court, Part Three; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize and honor Chancellors Irvin H. Kilcrease Jr., Carol L. McCoy, and Ellen Hobbs Lyle for their continuing work in upholding the laws in Davidson County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as proclaiming May 1, 2000, as Law Day in Nashville and recognizing the Davidson County Chancellors.
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a certificate to be presented to each Davidson County Chancellor.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
