RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-201

A resolution commending Charity Doss as the 2000 Davidson County Spelling Bee Champion.

WHEREAS, on March 7, 2000, at Trevecca Nazarene University, Charity Doss of Ewing Park Middle School demonstrated true academic excellence by becoming the Spelling Bee Champion of Davidson County for 2000; and

WHEREAS, she competed against more than fifty-five students from over thirty Davidson County public and private middle schools, where she lasted all twenty-one rounds to earn the title of 2000 Davidson County Spelling Bee Champion; and

WHEREAS, words that Charity had to overcome throughout the course of competition were quiche, efficacy, oxymoron, among others along with her final and winning word of indigenous; and

WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the accomplishments of students like Charity Doss, who win the title of Spelling Bee Champion and to encourage their continued mastery of spelling and learning of new words; and

WHEREAS, this talented young student was then afforded the opportunity to test her spelling skills against others at the Regional Spelling Bee at Lipscomb University, were she finished in the top half of the competitors; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council commend this eighth grader’s hard work and preparation for both bees, studying more than 3,500 words over the last several weeks, reflecting her knowledge of words and her discipline and determination to learn to spell.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as commending Charity Doss as the 2000 Davidson County Spelling Bee Champion.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a certificate to be presented to Charity Doss.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
