RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-200

A resolution recognizing Karen Lynne Deal for her contributions to the students of Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools through her work as associate conductor of the Nashville Symphony.

WHEREAS, Karen Lynne Deal has served as associate conductor of the Nashville Symphony since 1992, winning widespread public praise for greatly enhancing the Nashville Symphony’s role in the schools, community and region through innovative education and outreach programs; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Deal, not only has expanded the student’s knowledge of music, but uses a musical format to teach history, social studies, language arts and visual arts to capture the imagination of students; and

WHEREAS, among her accomplishments are the development of the Pied Piper Concerts, worked diligently with the steering committee on the Let Freedom Ring Concert tribute honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., audience-geared parks concerts, and children’s concerts in Centennial Park; and

WHEREAS, the impact Ms. Deal has made will long be remembered for making orchestral performances in helping create the next generation of symphony audiences and Art’s advocates for those children she reached during her tenure with the Nashville Symphony; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Karen Lynne Deal for her passionate approach to educating her young audiences through her selection of musical works.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Karen Lynn Deal for her contributions to the students of Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools through her work as associate conductor of the Nashville Symphony

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a certificate to be presented to Karen Lynne Deal.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
