RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-185

A resolution requesting the Electric Power Board to expand its craft apprenticeship programs and co-op programs for technical jobs and to aggressively recruit employees in the public schools and vocational technical schools in Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County.

WHEREAS, Nashville Electric Service has many employees who have or will soon reach retirement age; and

WHEREAS, Nashville Electric Service is experiencing significant turnover of skilled employees, particularly employees originally hired from outside our community; and

WHEREAS, the young people of our community should be able to be hired and trained for quality jobs in Middle Tennessee.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Electric Power Board and the management of Nashville Electric Service to open and/or dramatically expand both craft apprentice programs and co-op programs for technical jobs. The Metropolitan Council further requests that Nashville Electric Service aggressively recruit employees in Nashville’s public schools and vocational technical schools.

SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to each member of the Electric Power Board and to the President of Nashville Electric Service.

SECTION 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
