RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-184

A resolution requesting the Mayor and the Metropolitan Board of Public Education to seek funding from the federal government and other sources to provide for sensitivity training and programs.

WHEREAS, in order to improve the quality of life and promote the health, safety and welfare of the residents in the area of the Metropolitan Government, and recognizing the diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds of our residents, the Metropolitan Government and the Board of Public Education should take an active role in providing sensitivity training and programs for all employees; and

WHEREAS, federal grants are often available to fund such training and programs, and funds are often made available from other groups to provide such training.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor and the Metropolitan Board of Public Education to seek funding from the federal government and other sources to provide for sensitivity training and programs.

SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Mayor, to the members of the Metropolitan Board of Public Education, and to the Director of Schools.

SECTION 3. That the Mayor, the Board of Public Education, and the Director of Schools are further requested to inform The Metropolitan Council of the feasibility and/or the actions taken in compliance with the request contained in Section 1 hereof, not later than sixty (60) days after the adoption of this Resolution.

SECTION 4. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
