RESOLUTION NO. RS2000-162

A resolution urging the residents in the area of the Metropolitan Government to participate in the 2000 Census.

WHEREAS, the United States Constitution requires that a census be conducted throughout the nation every ten years; and

WHEREAS, funding for local programs, especially those dealing with health, safety and welfare, are dependent upon an accurate census count, as many funding and grant programs from federal and state government are based upon a population count; and

WHEREAS, to assure that the area of the Metropolitan Government receives its fair share of this funding, it is vital that there be a total, complete, and accurate census count; and

WHEREAS, to achieve a total, complete, and accurate count will require not only that residents respond promptly to the census forms mailed to their homes, but workers will be needed to assure that every person is counted.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as urging all residents of the Metropolitan Government to participate in the 2000 Census, not only by completing required information forms to assure that they are counted, but to participate by working to assure this census process has a total, complete, and accurate count which is vital to the Metropolitan Government for the public health, safety and welfare of our residents.
